Something fun to quiz you on:

Program this and then tell me what track it is:

MonoNote running @ 1/8th notes, 8 step sequence,
BPM around 135, pitches:

C1, C2, Bb1, G1, C1, C2, Eb2, G2

Sound: classic Moog Bass

Start w/ the end step on step 5, step 2 skipped. After a
few bars, set end step to 6, then unskip step 2.

This should be pretty easy. After the first correct answer, I'll
post the rest of the instructions...

Cheers,
Jim

Not sure, but sounds like JMJarre to me.

I tried, and had no idea... id assumed it was going to be 'on the run' ... but it wasn't ;)

I'm using the Dutch Sub preset in Monark with a 909 Kick for this little quiz, it's not something that I immediately recognise.

I bet we kick ourselves when we know what it is, I thought it was going to be Billie Jean…

my guess:

Pink Floyd - Shine on You Crazy Diamond

...but i had to transpost it before i got an idea :)

C - G - F

Those are some very interesting guesses -- and I think I need to go an listen to some of those tracks again to see how similar they are.

Anyway, the original track is older than all of those. Here are the rest of the sequencing instructions:

- Full Sequence (again):
C1, C2, Bb1, G1, C1, C2, Eb2, G2

-- 1/8th note rate, around 135 bpm
-- 3 x 1/16th note delay w/ moderate feedback.
-- Moog bass, some resonance, keep the cutoff low to medium-low

- Start with Step 2 Skipped & End Step at 5. -- The initial pattern thus plays 4 steps -- 2/4 time...
(a few bars)
- Set the EndStep to 6. (now at 5/8 time)
(a few bars)
- Un-skip Step 2. (now at 6/8 time)
(a few bars)
(this is a good place to drop in a reverse piano sample...;) )
- Set the StepLength of steps 1-4 to 1/2 of normal -- i.e. 1/16th notes
(now the pattern is in 2/4 time: 4 1/16th notes, 2 1/8th notes)
(a few more bars)
- Set all StepLengths back to 'normal' (1/8th notes)
(a few more bars)
- Set the EndStep to step 8 -- now the pattern is playing all 8 steps in 4/4 time.
(a few more bars)
- For some variation, skip various steps
(a few more bars)
- Steadily reduce the pattern, first down to steps 1,3,4 then to just steps 1 & 2.

Ok possibly........

"I feel Love" Donna Summer

Very close, but not quite -- this track is a couple years earlier ('75)...

BTW: A friend says that the baseline for "I Feel Love" is C, C, G, Bb -- but I haven't checked carefully yet…

Ok, I've let this drag on long enough. Here's an online copy with some nice visuals:

The sequence starts at about 7:15, but I'd recommend starting a bit earlier to let the drone sink in…

Enjoy!

I have never heard that before so I would never have guessed that :p
