The new Livid Base looks interesting:

It does look interesting, especially for the Ableton crowd. Not sure I'd pay $400 though.

At first glance, I wasn't that interested, as I saw the grid and thought "grid mapping" -- but the grid isn't big enough. But there is another protocol in N4 for 'knobs n faders', and it could work quite well:

8 function buttons on the side for navigation.
8 param buttons + 8 param faders for editing params.

... then you've still got 32 more buttons for bookmarks (i.e. jump directly to a preset param page), or perhaps a 2 octave keyboard, drum grid, etc.

And in particular, those touch-faders have visual feedback, so as you page through parameters, you would get some visual feedback on what is happening. Also, those velocity & pressure sensitive buttons could be very handy (say for a separate 'keyboard' mode). And it looks pretty durable -- would fit well with a Launchpad in a backpack. Not a cheap controller, but possibly a very useful one.

Cheers,
Jim
