Default Confused over mini launchpad.

My experience of numerology is zero...

I was quite interested in how the mini launchpad controlled numerology ...

So I downloaded version4...and I'm using it in demo mode.

Just started simple using the mono note module to control a synth...

I can get the mini launchpad to effect the notes ....but there are no lights coming on at all.. so it's hard to know what's happening with it.

I tried it in ableton and the lights do come on so it's seems to be a problem with numerology.

I also tried version 3 but it's the same problem as far as I can tell.

Ps....I found controller setup and chose the launchpad ...I even changed the name to say "Launchpad Mini" but the pad is still lifeless.

Any ideas guys....Thanks...

I think that Live keeps control of the Launchpad unless you go into
it's Preferences and deselect it as a controller. This should allow
Numerology to work with it IIRC.
I hope that helps!

I recommend keeping Live off until you get things running smoothly w/ N4 and the Launchpad. -- I'll add tips for co-operating w/ Live in the next post.

- In the controller setup, make sure you have both the MIDI input and output setup for the Launchpad MINI -- both have to be setup for things to work.

- After modifying the controller setup, try saving it then restarting N4.

- Once N4 is restarted, add a MonoNote to a new stack. Then press the User1 button on the Launchpad, that takes you to 'rack navigation' mode. If there's a MonoNote in the project, you should see a red button on the Launchpad's grid for it. Push that button and then you'll be in "Rack Edit" mode, on the 'Edit' page.

- Check out the Launchpad videos at the bottom of this page:

There's no written doc for the mapping, but the videos cover pretty much everything....

Default N4 + Launchpad + Ableton Live 9....

A few quick tips for getting N4 and Live 9 to play nice w/ the Launchpad:

In N4's Controller Setup panel for the Launchpad, there is a setting called "Ableton Live Compatibility Mode". When that is on, Numerology will ignore the Launchpad until you press the 'User2' button. Repeatedly pressing this button will cycle through Numerology's 'Presets', 'Rack Nav' and 'Rack Edit' modes.
Pressing any of the other mode buttons (Session, User1 or Mixer) will return control back to Live. Use this mode if you want to use a Launchpad with both Live and Numerology.

If you only want to use the Launchpad w/ Numerology, turn that mode off -- then you get dedicated buttons for all modes, and you get Mixer mode. Also, Live 9 is very insistent about automatically recognizing and attaching to any connected Launchpad on your system. To override that behavior, look at Live's MIDI / Control Surface prefs. Assign some controller to any empty slot -- that will keep Live from filling in an empty slot w/ the Launchpad. It doesn't matter too much what controller you pick, but probably best to stick with a controller you don't have...

All this applies whether you're running N4 standalone, ReWired to another app, or as a plugin. Anytime Numerology and Live are both running, there's a potential for a conflict -- but once you settle on a strategy, you'll be fine...
