Default Vector Firmware 1.2.0

This is a big update from the 1.0.X series. I have included the release notes for all updates since 1.0.19. If you are on a firmware earlier than 1.1.1, be sure to read the section in the release notes on Modulation. There are also lots of updates and usability improvements to Scenes and how they interact with Presets and Playlist actions.

Vector Sequencer Firmware Update Instructions

• Download and un-zip the Vector firmware file (VECTOR.BIN.zip).
• Press and hold the Shift button while powering up the Vector to enter USB Disk mode.
• Use a USB ‘A to B’ cable to connect the Vector to your computer. After a few seconds,
the SD Card for the Vector will show up as a new disk.
• Unzip VECTOR.BIN.zip. On a Mac, the Finder may do that for you. Do not double-click on VECTOR.BIN,
which the Finder will try to de-compress into something not useful.
• Make sure the filename is exactly VECTOR.BIN, and copy it to the root directory of Vector’s SD Card – Delete
or move any previous VECTOR.BIN firmware files.
• Now is also a good time to backup your Vector's PROJECT directory.
• Unmount/Eject the Vector’s SD Card from your computer, and power off your eurorack system.
• Hold down the Rec button on the Vector while powering up your system.
• Press Next to load the new Firmware, which takes about 20 seconds.
• Verify the Firmware is the correct version in Globals -- first page, 2nd OLED, top-left corner.

RELEASE NOTES:

1.2:

- Fixed an issue related to assinging a sub-seq to a velocity output.
- Fixed a situation that could cause a missing note in a Maj7th chord.
- Fixed a drawing error in prefs related to the beat counter.

1.1.12:
Moved the Beat Counter to the 1st OLED (in place of tempo), and added
the current project name to the top-right of the 2nd OLED.

Fixed an issue when triggering scenes that still have a 'repeat' in them.
Fixed some errors in LED colors when changing edit pages.
Fixed an issue that could causee a lockup with Trigs in EXT mode.
Shift+Mute now works properly on the Modulation and SeqCtl pages.

1.1.11:
Tweaked an error message condition.

1.1.10:
Scenes: disables 'reset on stop' for scenes, will re-add as a pref and direct reset action.

1.1.9:

Scenes: When creating a new scene (by editing a blank one), parts that are currently muted
will now be muted in the new scene as well.

Scenes: Fixed a redraw issues when stopping the transport.

1.1.8:

Scenes & Presets and Transport Stop:
The default beahvior for the Vector is a full 'reset on stop'. This means that all sequences
are reset, and now also means that the scene is set to the first scene, and all parts are set
to the presets indicated in that scene.

Scenes: When a new scene is triggered, all parts have their sequences reset, even if the same
preset is indicated for both the previous scene and the new one.

Scenes: A part note mutes immediately when setting it to mute on the current/active scene
Scenes: Fixed the 'preset stuck blinking' bug (usually happened w/ parts 7 or 8)

1.1.7:

Scenes: On init-project, fixed an issue where not all scenes were being properly initialized.

Scenes: Fixed an error issue when moving between scenes where a part is muted in both scenes.

Scenes: when loading a project, the presets (and mute status) will be set for every Part based
on their settings in the first scene.

1.1.6:

Presets: No longer reset when duplicating a preset.

Scenes: Removed the 'repeat' option.

Scenes: Fixed 'infinite cue' errors when cue'ing scenes where no presets change, or the only changes
are muted parts.

Reformat Part : Fixed an issue where the confirmation dialog didn't always have the correct part name.

1.1.5:

Trigger Outs : Fixed an issue where they would drift out of sync when the Vector is externally sync'd.
Trigger Outs : When changing clock divisions, now auto re-sync to the beat.
Trigger Outs : Fixed an issue where triggers could get stuck on for a while after restarting the transport.

Fixed a timing issue where triggers would run slightly ahead of sequences.

Dashboard: Fixed an issue where dashbord scaling of Gate, Velocity and Chance probability was
not being reset when loading a project.

Playlist: Fixed an issue where the 'next playlist' indicator (which blinks) would get stuck
on forever if it is blinking when you turn off the playlist.

Scenes: Fixed a lockup issue when using mutes.
Scenes: Fixed a UI bug where a scene could get stuck in 'blink' mode.

Ext Mod: Now correctly updates settings with preset changes.

Fixed a timing issue in the sub-sequencers.

Scales: Fixed a bug for the Pentatonic Minor scale

1.1.2:

Fixed a stuck-note issue that could happen when muting a part on the Part page.
Fixed a stuck-note issue that could happen when moving a part to an empty preset.

1.1.1:

IMPORTANT: This build has a significant behavior change in the way
sub-sequencer modulation works. The Vector will auto-update
existing projects as they are loaded to accomodate the changes, but
there is always a slight chance that the project will not load
correctly. I recommend you both back up your existing projects, and
temporarily turn off auto-save until you have verified that the
sub-sequencer settings in your projects are loaded correctly.

Sub-Sequencers:

Sub-Seq modulation is now offset based, which brings it in line with
how external modulation works. One of the advantages of the 'direct
set' approach used before is that when programming the sub-sequence,
you could see the actual values that would be set for the target
param. With the new approach, that benefit is mostly retained by
showing both the sequence value (which is now a generic numeric
value from -50 to +50) and the estimated resulting value for the
target param. It is an estimate as it doesn't take into account any
other modulation (or chance ops) on that param.

Sub-Seq modulation is also now fully additive -- e.g. you can target
the same parameter with both sequencers, which can be an interesting
way to manipulate pitch in particular.

Modulation :

Modulated parameters in SeqCtl now show a super-script indicating
their modulation source. For the Sub-sequencers, the indicators are
'S1' and 'S2', for external modulation sources, they are 'X1' and
'X2'. For parameters with multiple modulation sources, only the
first is shown.

Preset Playlist:

The indicator for the playlist is now an icon, instead of just
'PL'. It always appears to the top-left of step 7 in all edit modes.
A few beats before a playlist-initiated preset change happens on the
current part, the next preset will start blinking next to the
readout for the current playlist. When a playlist-inititated preset
change happens, all values on the current edit page are now updated
immediately. When a preset change is initated by a Scene or
manually, any playlist behavior currently in progress is now
(correctly) interrupted.

Scenes:

When a Scene is queued, the new scene will show a blinking
background until it is set. Presets that have playlist ops set on
them will show an icon next to them: An arrow pointing right for
'play for, then go fwd' playlist ops, and a curved arrow for 'play
for, then loop backwards' playlist ops. Presets that are changing
due to playlist ops will also blink as they are queued up.

Sync:

A timing adjument to the Vector's DIN sync algorithm now allows it
to more reliably sync to Pamelas's New Workout in RC24 mode. Set one
trigger of PNW to "ON", route that to Run on the Vector, another to
"*24", route that to Clock on the Vector.

Fixes & Updates: - CHORD SEQs : Now only generate 1 note event for
unison, 2 notes events for dyads, and 3 note events for triads. -
SUB-SEQs : the 'foreground' LED now draws immedately when navigating
to any of the Sub-Sequencer pages. - GLOBALS : The Vector FW
version now appears on the top-left of the 2nd OLED (instead of
top-right)

Thx Jim

Uploading the software now. Just wanted to mention that, on my Mac, whenever I eject the Vector as an external hard drive and then reboot the Vector, my Mac always shows the Hard drive not ejected properly message? Somehow the Vector does not disconnect cleanly from my Mac. this happens on every occasion. Just an FYI

Happens here too, I think it disconnects then very quickly re-connects every time. No idea if it's possible to change the behaviour in the firmware, but I find it helps to eject, wait till it shows as unmounted in the finder (when the icon disappears) then disconnect promptly (before vector is re-mounted)

Yup, it doesn't that. I'll add a 'do not reconnect until re-plugged' check.

Cheers,
Jim

Hi Jim. Was the bug with projects loading up, being 1 BPM out fixed? I'm using 1.2.0 and still getting this issue (very minor I know) ie projects saved with 116 tempo loading up as 115bpm. But I'm wondering if it's because I'm still loading old projects..

Yes, I'm still seeing this bug even with new projects. I wouldn't call it 'very minor' either, altho obviously not catastrophic. It's just plain annoying to have to remember to look at the BPM and correct it with every Project load.

Another bug I just noticed: Half of the Shift+[param] operations on SEQ CTL pg2 don't work while in that page; e.g. the Shift+Clear, Mute, Gen, & Evo do work, but the Shift+Dbl, Inv, Sh-L, & Sh-R don't. Oddly, they will work in many of the other pages, like Pitch, Gate, etc., but it seems to me they should definitely work in the page you're in when you're most likely to use them, the SEQ CTL page.

I am getting stuck MIDI notes and some odd retrigger behavior in chord mode when using tied gates. I’m wondering if anyone else experiences this or can it be due to odd behavior in the part of my synth?

Send an email to me (jim (at) five12.com), I want to get you an early build of 1.3.X. It has a much smarter legato note algorithm for Chords...

Cheers,
Jim

This has been fixed for 1.2.2, should be out tomorrow, barring any last minute surprises.

Confirmed, will be an easy fix.

Cheers,
Jim
