Default Multiple Launchpads?

I was thinking about getting a second launchpad but am unclear on how having multiple launchpads would work. I have a few questions.

If I page forward or back on one launchpad does the 2nd launchpad page as well? Or do I have to navigate on each launchpad to the correct page?

Do I get 8 (4x2) pages? Or am I still limited to 4 pages but am able to see 2 of those pages at once?

Thanks.

Here's all the stats:

- Numerology 4 supports multiple launchpads, 2 for N4 SE and 4 or more for N4 Pro.

- Each launchpad by default works independently -- that part is already implemented.

- You will be able to link launchpads on (at first) a module-by-module basis. If two (or more) launchpads are linked, then anytime you navigate either (any) launchpad to edit a module where linking is enabled, all linked launchpads will navigate there as well, but each will automatically 'see' whichever segment of the sequence is appropriate. This bit has not been implemented yet, so the details have to be fleshed out, but the idea is to make it easy to move between linked an un-linked modes.

At first I had planned that a pair of Launchpads would be setup as a single virtual controller, but after playing around a bit, I found it was better to have a looser linkage. Although it is great to be able to edit a 16-step pitch pattern or 32-step drum pattern across 2 Launchpads, I have found that it is equally useful to either have one launchpad on 'Edit' w/ the 2nd on 'Seq Ctl' of the same module, or to have each launchpad 'Edit' two complementary sequences -- bass & drums, two synths, etc.

In the meanwhile (until the N4 public beta is ready), if you have Ableton Live, you can of course use 1 launchpad for it and the other for Numerology...

Cheers,
Jim

Thanks Jim. I realized I misread/mis-skimmed the release notes. I can't wait for N4.

Thumbs up

the StepSEQ functions nicely... no where near the functionality of Numerology but for basic sequencing it's not bad.

The possibility to set up a 32 step sequence (or more I suppose) and have it display on 4 separate launchpads would be a great bonus. That is to play 1-8 on launchpad 1, steps 9-16 on launchpad 2, steps 17-24 on lauchpad 3 and finally steps 25-32 on launchpad 4.

It would allow you to see your sequence and make change on the fly well in advance of the sequences triggering the tone.

Being able to swap individual lauchpads in and out for other functions would be incredible.

Maybe a little OT but here goes...

I'd really like to be able to switch back and forth from the Launchpad controlling Ableton to the Launchpad controlling the Numerology sequencer... kinda the way Maschine works as a plug-in in Ableton and can also be switched to a mode which controls Ableton.

That's the plan -- there will be an "ableton compatibility" mode whereby the N4 launchpad mapping stays off until you hit "user2". However, it does mean loosing the session, user1 & mixer buttons. The plan is to drop the mixer page (rather redundant), and use User2 to cycle between rack nav, rack edit and presets.

Cheers,
Jim

Thanks for the quick reply Jim, you rule!

Although that is great news that the Launchpad will be able to be switched back and forth from controlling Numerology to 'Ableton control mode', I was really hoping to be able to use the Session View control! Ahhh... maybe this is not possible. Still good news though.

Live keeps control over Session and Mixer -- pushing them always returns control to Live. User1 is a possibility, but every time there is a switch between User1 & User2, Live seems to clear the Launchpad's grid, which could be a pain when trying to quickly navigate the Numerology mapping. What I think will work pretty well is to have something like this:
- Push User1 : go to rack nav mode
- Select a module, go to rack edit mode
- Push User1 twice : go to "Presets" mode.

So a double-push on User1 will act as a replacement for the session button -- not too bad, all things considered.

Cheers,
Jim
