Default Legato playing & MIDI recording

I use the Legato playing mode (found on e.g. the NoteGen, MonoNote or PolyNote modules) quite a lot, especially for playing 'tied' notes to monophonic synths. Typically I want to program portamento glides, which are often triggered by playing legato notes (i.e. slight overlap between first note end and next note start).

When I record the MIDI output of a stack playing legato notes, and subsequently want to edit it in another application, my experience so far is that the MIDI sequence (used with the exact same instrument plugin/patch) plays back correctly in some apps, such as (e.g.) Reaper, but not in others, such as (e.g.) Ableton Live or Logic Pro. The note overlaps seem to get 'corrected' on importing them into the latter hosts. A (tedious) workaround is to select all the notes that should have been slightly overlapping the next ones, and extending their length a little bit manually. It seems to me that the fault lies with those third party apps that may mess up MIDI timing. However, I am wondering whether it may be possible to prevent this issue from within Numerology, by slightly increasing the length of the overlap of legato notes, and whether/in which circumstances that would have any adverse side effects.

Does anyone else have similar experiences with regard to exported MIDI of legato notes?

I'll see what I can do -- I am guessing that your analysis is correct -- some hosts are re-sorting MIDI events when they should not.
